A pet registration flow for a web app and website
The product:
Happy Pets Veterinary Hospital is an imaginary pet clinic located in Bloomington, Indiana. Its goal is to provide an efficient way for patients to register their pets and link as much information as possible to their pet’s profile.
Project duration:
May 2022 - June 2022
The problem:
Patients wanted to complete a registration intake form for their pets.
The goal:
Design a registration flow for patients to use prior to visiting the clinic so they can save time upon arrival and make changes remotely.
My role:
UX designer designing a web app and website from conception to delivery.
Responsibilities:
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.
User Research:
A primary user group identified through research
was professional adults who want to save time at the pet clinic by registering their pet on the website.
Research revealed that other user problems included not being able to make changes to their user account and not being able to upload a photo of their pet.
Wireframes:
Creating digital wireframes made it easy to understand how the design could help address user pain points and improve the user experience. Prioritizing useful button locations and visual element placement on the home page was a key part of my strategy.
Low-fidelity prototype:
I connected all of the screens involved in the primary user flow of registering a pet. I received feedback on my designs about showing the status of the registration form at different points during the process. I implemented these suggestions in places that addressed user pain points.
Mockups:
Based on the insights from a usability study, I created an overlay page to represent the pet photo uploading process. This allowed for users to see the status and made it easier to complete the registration form.
High-fidelity prototype:
Impact:
The registration flow allows users to successfully register their pet with the veterinary hospital.
What I learned:
I learned that even something as small as adding a button to exit out of a popup window can have a huge impact on the user experience.
